As the summer draws to a close, AAHID has been busy with a number of important activities and initiatives. The Board recently concluded a successful weekend hosted by our Industry Partner Tandus in Chattanooga. In addition to the opportunity to share our thoughts about product design and the issues impacting healthcare with Tandus, we spent much of the weekend working on an update to the job analysis for Healthcare Interior Design. This is the first step that will provide the blueprint for the development of new questions for our exam. Please see the in-depth articles in this newsletter for more information about these activities.
Thanks to our Industry Partner IOA and regional sales representative, Pat Gerry Wilson, AAHID had a most prominently located booth at METROCON in Dallas. It was great to see so many of our Certificants from the region. Thanks to all for your dedication and support!
We are gearing up for the fall conference season, which will include the AAHSA Leading Age Conference held in Washington, DC from
October 16
– 20.…

METROCON drew over 3000 attendees from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas. The AAHID booth was located in the aisle leading to the seminar rooms at the regional trade show in Dallas on August 11 – 12. It was donated by Pat Gerry Wilson and was strategically placed by some of our healthcare industry partners, Peter Pepper, AmCase and IOA to catch the eye of potential certificants and sponsors.
Janet Kobylka presented a seminar titled "Hidden Danger: Toxins in The Typical Hospital Environment," which dealt with sustainability verses infection control in an acute care environment. There were approximately 80 attendees and it was the first session to kick off METROCON.

Diversity of Candidates
Despite the continued economic and marketplace challenges that we are all experiencing, AAHID has seen continued, steady growth in the number of applications and approved candidates to take the exam this year. We are excited to receive candidates from diverse healthcare interior design professionals and experience levels: from in-house facilities designers and project managers to specialists in acute care, assisted living, senior healthcare, and ambulatory care. There continues to be a growing interest from Canadian healthcare designers; we look forward to seeing applications and portfolios from our friends up north.
